Leaving Home

June of 2024 was our last month in Newton after 25 years and the beginning of the next phase of our life. All of our plans were coming together nicely. We sold, on Facebook Marketplace, our electronic and electric items plus all of our stuff that was stored in the basement for years. Phew!

Beacon Hill Art Walk Show

We sold Gitty’s art at the Beacon Hill Art Walk at the beginning of June.

It was a hugely successful day

The location was fantastic: right at the entrance to one of the biggest booth areas

Her friends from the Newton Watercolor Society bought all of her art supplies at a pop-up art store in our home.

Leaving the USA for good, we also said goodbye to NYC by spending a few days and going to musicals, just like early on when we moved to the NorthEast. New York was and is still a highlight for us every time we are there.

We sold all of our furniture and household items with FB marketplace or gave them away. We started doing this in February, but of course, accelerated our efforts in our last month before saying goodbye to Newton.

We got really lucky with our big furniture items as did the people who got them. We even found the perfect couple for our rather new king-size bed frame on the last day - it went to a pregnant couple who had just a few weeks earlier moved to the Boston area and needed a lot of stuff for their new house.

With the fantastic help of our friends and relatives, we shed ourselves of all our furniture and all the things we collected over the last decades. Everything had to go - every plate, pan, baking utensils, fork, spoon, knife, and nut cracker - everything in the kitchen, every fitness item, all Christmas decorations, all outdoor items, all office supplies, everything in the living room (pillows, blankets, books, etc.), hallway, guest bedroom, bathrooms (towels, sheets), all electronic cables, connectors, working tools, light bulbs, all stored items; all lamps, curtains, rugs — literally everything.

During our last days in Newton, we held the mother of all garage sales. We sold the rest of our worldly belongs for pennies on the dollar. Items we collected over a lifetime. Time to start anew.

Equipped each with 2 suitcases, a carry-on and a backpack each, we look forward to starting the next part of our lives. But first, we are taking a three-month vacation, starting with the first 4 weeks in Boston and Florida.

Fare thee well, Newton!
